About the CMB
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is one of the 15 competitions that are members of VINOFED, the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions. With over 15,000 wines evaluated each year by a panel of more than 350 tasters from 50 different nationalities, the CMB stands out as one of the most international competitions in the world, both in terms of the origin of the wines entered and the composition of its juries. This level of diversity is unmatched in the wine competition landscape.
The credibility of the CMB is based on four pillars, strict compliance with OIV standards for the organisation of competitions, 100% blind tastings with full sample anonymity, regular post competition checks on medal winning wines, and a capped medal percentage, ensuring that only wines of excellence are awarded. The CMB is recognised as “one of the most reliable” by professionals and consumers alike.
There is no single “best” competition, but rather several internationally recognised reference competitions. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is among the most respected thanks to its multicultural jury and its controlled and limited medal rate. Unlike some competitions where up to 80% of wines receive awards, the CMB limits its medal rate to around 30%, guaranteeing true selectivity.
The CMB does more than judge, it supports. Unlike other competitions, every wine entered, whether awarded or not, receives a complete analysis report including an Aroma Wheel, a tasting radar and detailed tasting comments. These tools help producers, and also consumers, to better understand the wines and support their sales arguments.
Since 2025, CMB is moving beyond its traditional role as a competition to become an active partner for producers, distributors, importers, and consumers on a global scale.
Wines are assessed on typicity, style and price by panels of 5 to 6 judges of different nationalities. Each session is preceded by a calibration tasting to harmonise scoring. Anonymity is total, neither the label nor the bottle shape is revealed, only the vintage is communicated. The calculation of results follows official OIV procedures.
The impartiality of the CMB is guaranteed by a jury of industry professionals, buyers, journalists and sommeliers, from 56 countries. Tastings are conducted 100% blind, ensuring that only the quality of the wine is judged.
Commercial impact and added value of the CMB
Studies show that a Concours Mondial de Bruxelles medal can generate a sales increase of 20 to 30%. According to a Viavoice survey, 85% of consumers consider a medal as a guarantee of quality, and 61% are willing to pay more for an awarded wine. In particular for mass retail sales, where 77% of consumers buy their wine, the medal represents an essential benchmark of trust.
The medal acts as a globally recognised third party endorsement. It reassures consumers, triggers the purchasing decision and facilitates listing with distributors and mass retail. The CMB supports this visibility through international partnerships, in Italy, Mexico, France and other countries.
Absolutely. The CMB has international partnerships in Bulgaria, Italy, Mexico, France, South Korea, China, Benin and others, providing direct visibility for awarded wines. CMB medals are particularly recognised in strategic markets where the competition travels each year. After Croatia in 2023, Mexico in 2024 and China in 2025, the CMB continues to build long term commercial relationships with local stakeholders.
Faced with shelves featuring hundreds of references, professional buyers and consumers look for trusted benchmarks. A CMB medal acts as a “lighthouse in the dark”, facilitating listing decisions and triggering purchases. Awarded wines sell faster and often at higher prices, making them a strong commercial argument for merchants and distributors.
It is an international showcase for awarded wines. The “CMB Experience” concept sets up wine bars and tasting corners in strategic locations, airports and key cities worldwide, in Mexico, South Korea, Benin, Italy and elsewhere, allowing final consumers to discover awarded products directly.
