CMB welcomes wines made from Latin America’s Creole Strains in 2025

Committed to innovation and always attentive to the evolution of the wine industry, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) will welcome wines made from the great family of Creole Strains from Latin America in its 2025 edition. For the first time, these wines will compete in all four international sessions: Rosé Wines Session, Red & White Wines Session, Sparkling Wines Session, and Sweet and Fortified Wines Session. This milestone reinforces the CMB’s position as a leader in exploring new oenological trends while offering a global platform for showcasing and appreciating the viticultural diversity of the Americas.

Creole Strains (Cepas Criollas) originated in Latin America from the first European vines brought by colonizers. Over centuries, these grapes adapted to local climates and soils, developing distinctive characteristics that reflect the terroir of each region. Some of the most representative varieties within this extensive family include País (Chile), Criolla Blanca and Criolla Grande (Argentina), Listán Prieto (Peru), Imporeña and Vischoqueña (Bolivia), Misión (Mexico and the United States), and Moscatel de Alejandría (Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile), among many others.

The inclusion of Cepas Criollas in the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is a natural step in the evolution of the competition. Our goal is not only to highlight the quality and character of the participating wines but also to recognize their historical and cultural significance and their impact on global viticulture“, says Baudouin Havaux, president of the CMB.

This decision provides Latin American producers with the opportunity to present their wines made from Creole Strains on equal footing with labels from around the world. It also offers a prestigious international validation platform for these historically underappreciated varieties in global markets.

With more than 30 years of experience, the CMB evaluates over 10,000 wines from 50 countries annually, relying on a panel of international industry experts. The inclusion of Creole Strains wines in the 2025 competition will introduce a new dimension, allowing critics, sommeliers, and global buyers to discover the unique potential of these varieties from both an oenological and commercial perspective.

Registration for the four international sessions of CMB 2025 is now open. Latin American producers interested in participating with wines made from Creole Strains can find more information at: https://concoursmondial.com/
