For the first time this year the competition went beyond its European borders and travelled all the way to Beijing for the tasting from May 10-13. Over 9180 wines from almost 50 producing countries competed before a selection of the world’s foremost tasters. In all, over 330 wine tasters representing 50 nationalities gathered for 3 days to judge entries.
The diverse range, both of entries and backgrounds of the tasters themselves, is one of the archetypal features of a competition that in just a few years has emerged as a world wine ‘tasting championship’.
