The Wine Bar by CMB welcomes Pierre Lurton for the presentation of Château Marjosse wines

Pierre Lurton, winemaker known for directing Château d’Yquem, in Sauternes, and Château Cheval Blanc, in Saint-Émilion, France, visited the Wine Bar by CMB in Mexico City to exclusively present his personal project: Château Marjosse. The visit was coordinated in collaboration with Dayane Ruvalcaba and Daniel Acevedo, owners of the successful Mexican e-commerce platform “Mercado de Vinos”.

Coming from a few days of leisure in Brazil and on his way back to France, Lurton spent practically less than 72 hours in Mexico but took the opportunity to present Château Marjosse to Mexican opinion leaders and importers. The tasting included 3 single-varietal red wines: Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec; as well as a white blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, and his most recent creation, a sparkling Blanc de Blancs that spends 42 months in contact with its lees.

“Château Marjosse allows me to keep my feet on the ground. After living in a constellation, especially when you spend so much time at Cheval Blanc, Yquem and with wines from the LVMH group, Marjosse always allows me to come back to reality: knowing that producing wine in Bordeaux is often a challenge and brings its own satisfactions,” revealed Lurton.

Since the early 1990s, Pierre began vinifying at Marjosse and, after several years, acquired the entire property in 2013. Located in Entre-Deux-Mers, this winery has allowed him to experiment with innovative concepts, such as producing single-varietals, bottling in Burgundy-style bottles and planting Chardonnay in Bordeaux, leading to his wines being labelled as “Vin de France”.

One of Lurton’s most recent and notable projects is his first sparkling wine, of which there are very few bottles. Mexico was the first country outside the European Union to receive this exclusivity. Château Marjosse labels always include illustrations of birds, designed by a watercolorist friend of Pierre’s, and names that play on rhymes or cultural references, such as “Blanksy,” a nod to the artist Banksy and the Blanc de Blancs style.

To complement the exclusive presentation, the Wine Bar by CMB (Wine & Spirits Experience by CMB) presented a lunch created by chef Daniel Nates, which included zucchini salad with pistachio and mint, and “French dip sandwiches.”

In less than five years, the Wine Bar by CMB has managed to become the cultural epicenter of wine in Mexico, periodically and exclusively hosting some of the most prominent figures in the international industry to learn about new styles, wineries and projects. In April 2023, the Wine Bar by CMB welcomed Jancis Robinson MW for a historic tasting of 27 labels from Mexico’s main wine-producing states, marking a milestone in the history of Mexican wine.
