Yinchuan, Ningxia, advancing into the future

From June 9th to 12th, 2025, the 32nd Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB), Red & White Wines Session, will be held in Yinchuan, Ningxia. For wine industry insiders, it’s no coincidence that Yinchuan has once again been chosen to host the largest-scale event of CMB.

The Rapid Advancement of Ningxia’s Wine Industry
Since its inception in 1984, Ningxia’s wine industry has fully tapped into and utilized its geographical advantages and resource endowments. It has vigorously promoted the development of the industry and explored a distinctive development path that integrates the wine industry with cultural tourism.

In 2024, the wine industry across Ningxia continued to make remarkable progress and achieved numerous outstanding results. Specifically, the planting area of wine grapes in Yinchuan reached 273,000 mu (approximately 18,200 hectares). The city has built 81 wineries, 10 of which wineries are tourist scenic spots at or above the 2A level. The annual production of wine reached 75 million bottles, which were exported to more than 40 countries and regions. The comprehensive output value of the industry reached 36 billion yuan (RMB), an increase of 20% compared with the previous year.

Currently, Ningxia has established the largest contiguous production area of wine grapes in China. “Ningxia Helan Mountain’s East Foothill Wine Region” has been included in the appendix of the China-EU Geographical Indications Protection Agreement, and its brand value has reached 33 billion yuan (RMB), ranking 7th on the national list of Regional Brands of Geographical Indication Products.

More advantages of Yinchuan, Ningxia
CMB’s special preference for Yinchuan, Ningxia, is not only due to the remarkable achievements that Ningxia’s wine industry has made but also because of its huge potential for international development.

Thanks to its unique geographical location, Ningxia has been actively expanding its wine export trade. In recent years, the wines from major wineries in the production area have been exported to more than 40 countries and regions, including Germany, the United States, Belgium, Canada, France, Singapore, Denmark, and Australia.

In 2012, “Ningxia Helan Mountain’s East Foothill Wine Region” became the first Provincial-Level Observer of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) in China. In 2024, Yinchuan City successfully joined the OIV International Network of Wine Cities.

In addition, the mature and perfect supporting institutional standards and policy system for the wine industry are the key to the prominence of the “Ningxia Helan Mountain’s East Foothill Wine Region”

The Blueprint for Sustained Development
