Awards Ceremony Winners in Mexico City
  • Labels from Mexico, the United States of America and New Zealand were recognized during the Awards Ceremony for the Winning Wines of the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon and the Rosé, Sparkling, White and Red Wine Sessions at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023.
  • Earthquake Zinfandel 2018, produced by Michael David Winery in California, USA, was recognized with the 2023 Sylvain Trophy, awarded annually to the highest-scoring oak-aged wine in the competition. Finca El Empecinado Cenzontle Blanco 2019, produced by Jesús Rivera, oenologist at El Cielo winery in Baja California, Mexico, received the 2023 International Revelation White Wine Trophy.
  • After the awards ceremony, the CMB presented the 7th Edition of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023, wine and spirits international contest to be held from November 15th to 17th in Mérida, Yucatán.

Mexico City, June 27th, 2023. The quality of 40 wineries from New Zealand, the United States and Mexico was recognized during the Awards Ceremony for the Winning Wines of the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon and the Rosé, Sparkling, Red and White Wine Sessions at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023.

Baudouin Havaux, President of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles; Rolf Meyer, director for Mexico and the Caribbean of United Airlines; Johan Verkammen, Ambassador of Belgium in Mexico; Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Ministry of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato and Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Ministry of Tourism Promotion of the State of Yucatán, were in charge of leading the event, held at Club France Mexico City.

The labels from New Zealand, the United States and Mexico stood out for their technical precision and great sensory expression among more than 1,210 wines registered for the 2023 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon and 1,150 rosés, 7,504 still whites and reds, and 900 sparkling wines registered in the different international sessions of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023.

During the ceremony, special recognitions were also given to Earthquake Zinfandel 2018, produced by Michael David Winery in California, United States, winner of the 2023 Sylvain Trophy, which is awarded annually to the oak wine that achieves the highest score in the competition, and to Cenzontle Blanco 2019 from Finca El Empecinado, produced by Jesús Rivera, oenologist of El Cielo Winery in Baja California, Mexico, recognized with the 2023 International Revelation White Wine Trophy.

“The medals awarded today reflect the unavoidable commitment to produce high-quality wines in the United States and Mexico, as well as the emergence and reaffirmation of wineries with an absolute focus on good management of the vineyards and winemaking processes in all North American”.

México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023
After awarding the Winning Wines of the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon and the Rosé, Sparkling, White and Red Wine Sessions at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023, Baudouin Havaux, president of the competition, and Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Ministry of Tourism Promotion of the State of Yucatán, presented the 7th Edition of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023, wine and spirits international contest to be held from November 15th to 17th in Mérida, Yucatán.

Organized by the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, wine and spirits championship with 30 years of experience, in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism Promotion of the State of Yucatán, the México Selection 2023 will recognize the best wines and spirits in Mexico, integrate a quality guide for consumers from all over the world and promote the gastronomic heritage of Yucatan.

Yucatan International Congress Center will be the meeting point for the 32 experts from Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Spain, the United States, France, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United Kingdom, in charge of evaluating and awarding the best labels through three rigorous days of blind tasting. The México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023 is part of the second edition of Sabores de Yucatán Festival, one of the most important gastronomic events in Mexico and the world.

Among the select group of judges participating this year are André Dominé, German writer and journalist Winner of the Prix Edmond de Rothschild for his encyclopedia “Wine”, as the best book on wine in France; Louise Hurren, British wine marketing communicator and regular contributor to Wine Searcher, Meininger’s International, Wine Enthusiast and JancisRobinson.com; Pier-Alexis Soulière, Master Sommelier since 2016 and Best Sommelier of the Americas in 2018, and Sandra Fernández, prominent Mexican sommelier and Maestra Tequilera.

The call for participating producers is open from September 1st to October 31st, 2023.

To be held from November 15th to 17th, 2023, in the State of Yucatán, the “México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles” aims to highlight the characteristics of quality Mexican wines and spirits, by region of origin, in Mexico and the world, promoting at the same time a healthy competition to raise the qualitative levels, from their own denominations of origin.

The tasting juries, recognized by their experience and international capacity as tasters, will evaluate the participating samples strictly blindly, according to the rules established by the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
