Valladolid all-set to host the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles’ first session of the year
Press release
Valladolid, 16 December 2021
Valladolid is due to host the Rosé Wine Session of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2022. The event will take place on March 11, 12 and 13 at the Patio Herreriano and will be attended by some sixty international judges.
The mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente; the town councillor in charge of culture and tourism, Ana Redondo; the chairman of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Baudouin Havaux; and the vice-chairman of the Valladolid Provincial Council, Víctor Alonso, have signed an agreement for the Rosé Wine Session of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles to take place in Valladolid in 2022.
The session will be held ahead of the competition and will focus on rosé wines. By holding the event in March, the aim is to respond to the needs of the marketplace and growing consumer interest for rosé wines. This will provide award-winning producers with promotional and marketing tools as soon as the wines are released for sale. The aim is also to develop a platform for dialogue and engagement, with a focus on rosé. The organisers chose Valladolid for the particular relevance of rosé to the province. Valladolid, which already hosted the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2017, is once again the host town and will be showcasing its many tourist, gourmet food and cultural sites, alongside its wines of course. Valladolid is the only province on the Iberian Peninsula that boasts five appellations – Cigales, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, Toro and León – and over 27,000 hectares planted to around twenty different grape varieties. It is also home to four wine routes that have now become go-to destinations for wine tourists – Cigales, Rueda, Toro and Ribera del Duero.
Some sixty international judges specialising in rosé wines will convene at the Patio Herreriano contemporary art museum to taste rosé wines for the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Between 1,200 and 1,300 entries will be tasted from March 11 to 13.
Registrations are open until 18 February 2022 and all rosé wines – still, sparkling, semi-sparkling and sweet – can be entered. In addition to the gold and silver medals, the following trophies will be awarded:
- Still Rosé Wine Revelation
- Sparkling Rosé Wine Revelation
- Medium-Dry Rosé Wine Revelation
- Sweet Rosé Wine Revelation
- Organic Rosé Wine Revelation
